The Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, has paid tribute to Bernie Banton, at the asbestosis campaigner’s funeral in Sydney.
On Banton’s behalf, Rudd paid tribute to the Australian union movement for its role in the campaign for justice from James Hardie Industries.
Rudd said a meeting he had with Banton during the election campaign served to remind him of what the election fight was for.
The Parliamentary Secretary for Defence, and former ACTU Secretary, Greg Combet, also spoke at the funeral.
