  • Mar 23: Following the Liberal Party’s success in a Victorian state by-election, the Opposition Leader, Jeff Kennett, rang his friend, the Liberal member for Kooyong, Andrew Peacock. The car-phone conversation was intercepted and recorded. It appeared on the front page of the Melbourne Sun newspaper. The transcript of the conversation is available here. Peacock’s comments about his leader, John Howard, led to his sacking from the shadow cabinet.
