US Supreme Court To Hear Bush Appeal
November 25, 2000
The United States Supreme Court is to hear an appeal by George W. Bush against the decision of the Florida Supreme Court to allow the inclusion of manually recounted votes. Oral arguments will be heard next Friday 1 December.
This significant development once again puts the result of the presidential election back in limbo. A decision on the Florida result needs to be made by December 12, to allow the 25 electors to be certified before the December 18 meeting of the Electoral College.
Bush's lead has dropped to 724 votes as recounting continues in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
Another court hearing brought by the Bush campaign is currently underway to consider the fate of overseas military ballots declared invalid in a range of counties across Florida.
