First Speeches By New Members Of The 41st Parliament

November 17, 2004

There were 14 new members of the House of Representatives following the 2004 elections.

New members give what are called "first speeches", formerly known as "maiden speeches". It is a courtesy of the Parliament that these speeches are heard without interjection.

Members use their first speeches to introduce themselves to the Parliament, to discuss their backgrounds, philosophies and particular interests, and to thank people who assisted their campaigns.

New members of the 41st Parliament and their first speeches are:

  1. Louise Markus (Liberal - Greenway, NSW)
