The Tasmanian Bacon Labor Government

This is a photograph of the Tasmanian Labor government, led by Premier Jim Bacon, in 2000.

Jim Bacon is seated. His deputy, Paul Lennon, is standing to the right at the rear of the group.

Bacon led the government from September 14, 1998, March 21, 2004.

He died from lung cancer on June 20, 2004, aged 54.

Bacon became premier on September 14, 1998, following his victory in the August 29 state election. He was succeeded as premier by Paul Lennon, who remained in office until May 26, 2008, when he was succeeded by David Bartlett. In turn, Bartlett was succeeded by Lara Giddings on January 23, 2001. Giddings left office on March 31, 2004, having lost the March 15 election.

At the time of its defeat in 2014, the Tasmanian Labor government had held office for 15 years, 6 months and 17 days.
