McCain and Obama Meet In First Presidential Debate

Senators John McCain and Barack Obama have met in the first of three presidential debates ahead of the 2008 election.

McCain withdrew his demand for the debate’s cancellation, even though congressional negotiations on the financial bailout package are not yet concluded.

The debate was intended to be on foreign affairs, defence and security, but the first 35 minutes were devoted to economic issues.
