Abbott Government Advertises Jobs For Ministerial Staff

The Abbott government has advertised today for staff to work with its new ministers and parliamentary secretaries.

The advertisement does not specify how many staff will be employed but the number would run to hundreds. There are 30 ministers and 12 parliamentary secretaries.

The advertisement offers positions for:

  • Senior (SES level) managers and policy advisers
  • Policy Advisers
  • Media Advisers
  • Administration

Applicants for management and advisory positions “should be able to demonstrate a keen interest in public policy, as well as an excellent understanding of current affairs and Australian politics”. All applicants are expected to have research and communication skills, as well as demonstrated “political judgement”.

It has been reported that a longtime Liberal Party official, Tony Nutt, is coordinating the recruitment of ministerial staff.
