Parties are required to have either 500 members or one member of parliament in order to be registered by the Australian Electoral Commission. Registration means a party can appear above-the-line on the Senate ballot paper and is able to receive public funding.

Registration also includes a registered abbreviation. The abbreviation for Derryn Hinch’s Justice Party is Hinch.
