With the election now in its final days, a final blitz of television advertising is underway.
This ad, Be Sure, Vote Liberal, is just 15 seconds long but encapsulates the government’s principal campaign themes: the risk of a hung parliament, chaos and dysfunction, the Budget deficit, jobs, Shorten’s new taxes, and asylum-seeker boats.
It is difficult to know to what extent the government is worried that it might be forced into a hung parliament. The campaign is at the stage where expressions of confidence or worry cannot be taken at face value.
The election advertising blackout comes into force at midnight on Wednesday evening.
