Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has held his first press conference of the new year in Sydney.
Albanese used the press conference to promote new TAFE places provided by the government.
On the cost of living, Albanese said: “Our priority will be to provide cost of living relief whilst taking pressure off inflation. I have asked Treasury and Finance to come up with further propositions that we’ll consider in the lead-up to the May budget this year, following the MYEFO that we released in December.”
Albanese criticised the Morrison government for its tardiness in supplying documents to the National Archives on the Iraq war decision, as revealed in the release of the 2003 Cabinet Papers. He said Dennis Richardson, a former Director-General of Security, and Secretary of the departments of Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Defence, will conduct an inquiry into the release of the documents.
He also discussed construction of the new Sydney airport terminal and the plane crash in Japan.
