Fixing a Broken Migration System: O’Neil Announces Government Strategy

Clare O’Neil, the Minister for Home Affairs, today announced a series of measures aimed at fixing a “broken migration system”.

The strategy involves reducing immigration numbers to around 250,000 a year, approximately half the current rate.

Overcoming an “overwhelming visa backlog” is a key aim of the strategy, including rectifying “widespread visa system abuses”, especially amongst international students, and increasing language requirements.
