Barton-Deakin Ministries: 1901-04

The First Australian Federal Government:

  • Edmund Barton: Jan 01, 1901 – Sep 24, 1903
  • Alfred Deakin: Sep 24, 1903 – Apr 27, 1904

Australia’s first Federal Government took office on January 1, 1901, preparatory to the first Federal Elections on 29-30 March 1901.

The new Protectionist Government, led first by Edmund Barton and then Alfred Deakin, survived in office until April 27, 1904, when the Australian Labor Party briefly took office.
