This is the full list of members who served in the Fourth House of Representatives from 1910 until 1913.
In a 75-member chamber, the Labour Party secured an absolute majority of seats at the April 13, 1910 election. The ALP won 42 seats (+16), to the newly-formed Commonwealth Liberal Party’s 31. There were two independents.
The ALP polled 49.97% of the primary vote, an increase of 13.33%. The Liberal Party polled 45.09%.
It was the first time since Federation in 1901 that a majority government was elected. The ALP also won a majority in the Senate. The new Prime Minister, Andrew Fisher, led the first majority Labour government anywhere in the world.
There were five by-elections in the 4th Parliament:
- Kooyong – 1910 – William Knox, the Liberal member, resigned. Robert Best retained the seat for the Liberals at the by-election.
- Batman – 1911 – Henry Beard, the sitting ALP member, died. Frank Brennan retained the seat for the ALP.
- North Sydney – 1911 – George Edwards, the sitting Liberal member, died. Granville Ryrie retained the seat for the Liberals.
- Boothby – 1911 – Edgerton Batchelor, the ALP member, died. David Gordon won the by-election for the Liberal Party.
- Werriwa – 1912 – David Hall, the ALP member, resigned. Benjamin Bennett retained the seat for the ALP.
The first table below shows the state-by-state breakdown of the election results. The second table lists the 80 members who served in the 4th House of Representatives, 75 elected at the general election in 1910, plus five who entered via by-elections.
