Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has addressed the National Press Club in Canberra, a day after Prime Minister Julia Gillard announced the September 14 election date.
Abbott reprised the now familiar themes from his speeches over the past couple of years.

Australia’s federal election will be held on September 14, 2013.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard has just announced the date during an address to the National Press Club in Canberra.
Gillard delivered what she called a “stocktake” of Australia’s position before outlining her version of the key issues for 2013. She said it was a case of “governing first, electioneering second” and then announced the date.
The election timetable means that Parliament will sit for the last time on June 27.
Australia has ushered in the new year 2013.

One thing we know for certain at this hour is that the federal election will be done and dusted in a maximum 11 months. The last possible date for the election is November 30th. The election could be held in August but is most likely to take place in early September or early October.
