O’Brien was elected at the July 2, 2016 election. He regained the seat for the Liberal National Party and replaced Clive Palmer.

Clive Palmer Announces He Will Not Contest Fairfax

Clive Palmer has announced that he will not contest the seat of Fairfax at this year’s election.

Palmer made the announcement during a valedictory statement to the House of Representatives. He left open the possibility that he might run for the Senate instead.

In his speech, Palmer defended his business interests, claimed he had been persecuted by the media, and itemised a long list of alleged achievements of the Palmer United Party. [Read more…]

Clive Palmer was elected as the Palmer United Party member for the Queensland electorate of Fairfax at the 2013 federal election.

He defeated the Liberal National candidate in what used to be a safe seat for the Coalition parties.

Fairfax is located on the Sunshine Coast. It extends from Peregian Springs and Eumundi in the north, to Maroochydore, Mountain Creek and Palmwoods in the south to Kenilworth in the west. Fairfax Poll Declared; Palmer Praises Democracy

The declaration of the poll in the Queensland electorate of Fairfax has taken place.

Fairfax is the final seat in the House of Representatives to be decided in the 2013 federal election. The Australian Electoral Commission has now returned all the writs for House elections. [Read more…]
