The Republican Party won control of the U.S. House of Representatives in 1994 for the first time since 1952. The Democratic Party needs a net gain of 19 seats to retake control.
There are 91 House of Representatives Freshmen, elected in the Republican victory in 1994, only 3 of whom are not seeking re-election this year. 74 of the freshmen are Republicans, 17 are Democrats.
