The 44th Parliament: Work Of The Session – Nov-Dec 2013

The House of Representatives has published the “work of the session” for the first 15 sitting days of the 44th Parliament.

The document covers the sitting days from November 12 to December 12, 2013.

Because of the federal election, the House of Representatives sat for only 48 days in 2013.

The Abbott government introduced 44 bills into the House in its first month. One private members bill was also considered. The bills comprise 1099 pages in total. 14 bills have been agreed to by the House and Senate. 23 bills are still before the Senate and 9 are still before the House. [Read more…]


Abbott Government Outlines Legislative Program For First Parliamentary Sittings

The Abbott government has issued a document listing the first items of legislation to be considered by the 44th Parliament.

The Parliament is to be ceremonially opened next Tuesday, November 12. The first Question Time will take place on Wednesday.

As expected, legislation to repeal the carbon and mining taxes will be among the first to be introduced. Abbott has promised that repealing the carbon tax will be the first piece of legislation to be introduced to the House.




Abbott And Hunt Release Carbon Tax Repeal Legislation

The Abbott government has released an exposure draft of its carbon tax repeal legislation.

The legislation will be open for consultation until November 4, ahead of the return of Parliament on November 12.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Environment Minister Greg Hunt made the announcement at a press conference in Canberra today. They reaffirmed their commitment to introducing the repeal legislation as the first item of business in the new Parliament. [Read more…]
