Brian Mitchell, the new ALP member for Lyons, has delivered his maiden speech in the House of Representatives.
Mitchell, 49, won the Tasmanian seat from the Liberal Party’s Eric Hutchinson at the July 2 double dissolution election. Hutchinson held the seat for just one term. Previously, the ALP’s Dick Adams held the seat for 20 years from 1993.
