Michelle Obama: Speech to the Democratic Party Convention

Michelle Obama has delivered a stirring speech to the Democratic Party Convention, a call to “the chorus of history” to defeat Donald Trump in this year’s presidential election.

Obama, wife of the 44th President, Barack Obama, pulled together the threads of the argument against Trump. “Being President doesn’t change who you are, it reveals who you are,” she told the convention in her video address. “He cannot meet this moment.”

Obama said: “If you think things cannot possibly get worse, trust me, they can, and they will, if we don’t make a change in this election… We have got to vote for Joe Biden like our lives depend on it.”

The Democratic convention was scheduled to be held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but the coronavirus pandemic has made it largely a virtual convention.

Mrs. Obama gave a personal view of the president. She said the values she fell in love with guide him each day in the White House.

“In the end, for Barack, these issues aren’t political — they’re personal,” Mrs. Obama said. “Barack knows the American Dream because he’s lived it, and he wants everyone, everyone in this country to have the same opportunity.” [Read more…]
