Coalition Defeats Labor In NSW Election; O’Farrell New Premier

The NSW Labor government has been defeated in a massive swing at today’s election, after 16 years in office.

The annual Council of Australian Government’s meeting has taken place in Canberra.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd met with State Premiers and Territory Chief Ministers, all Labor Party representatives.

This is audio of the press conference following the annual Council of Australian Governments meeting.

The press conference was chaired by Prime Minister John Howard. The other participants were the six State Premiers: Steve Bracks (Vic), Morris Iemma (NSW), Peter Beattie (Qld), Alan Carpenter (WA), Mike Rann (SA) and Paul Lennon (Tas). Iemma Announces Police Strike Force To Combat Race Violence

The NSW Premier, Morris Iemma, has announced the formation of a police strike force to combat the violence that erupted around Sydney’s southern beaches yesterday.
