Julia Gillard’s Campaign Launch Speech

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has formally launched her campaign for Saturday’s election with a policy speech in Brisbane today.

Gillard Announces August 21 Federal Election

Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced a Federal election for Saturday August 21.

The ALP’s election slogan, as expected, will be “Moving Forward”, an expression the Prime Minister used repeatedly at a press conference at Parliament House.

Writs for elections for the House of Representatives and half of the Senate will be issued at 6pm on Monday July 19. Electoral enrolment will close two hours later at 8pm. [Read more…]

‘Moving Forward’, Gillard Addresses Press Club; Laurie Oakes Steals The Show

As speculation about an early election continues, the Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, addressed the National Press club today.

Gillard’s speech was overshadowed by a question from Channel 9’s Laurie Oakes about events on the night of June 23 when Kevin Rudd’s leadership was challenged.

Oakes put to Gillard a claim that she reneged on a deal with Kevin Rudd to give him more time to turn around the political fortunes of the government. Gillard said the discussions were confidential and she would never talk about what happened that night. [Read more…]
