Government Establishes Royal Commission Into Home Insulation Programme

The Abbott government has established a Royal Commission into the Home Insulation Programme of the previous Labor government.

A statement from the Attorney-General, Senator George Brandis, and the Minister for the Environment, Greg Hunt, says the Cabinet has approved the Royal Commission and the government will shortly announce the Terms of Reference and “an eminent lawyer” as Royal Commissioner.

The Commission will focus on “the process and basis of Australian Government decisions in the establishment and implementation of the Home Insulation Programme and the Energy Efficient Homes Package that preceded it”. It will report by June 30 next year.
