George W. Bush was the 43rd President of the United States.
A Republican, he prevailed in the disputed presidential election of 2000 and was re-elected in 2004.
Bush’s father George Herbert Walker Bush, was a one-term Republican Party president from 1989 to 1993.
Bush was president at the time of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States. His presidency came to be defined by the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
